Health and Social Services
RCS hosts two health care-related programs on Tuesday nights during food pantry and community kitchen operations:
Ask a Nurse
Each Tuesday, during the hours of operation for the RCS food pantry and community kitchen, nurses in our clinic offer basic health screenings, health education, referrals and a listening ear as needed to our neighbors.
Each Tuesday, during the hours of operation for the RCS food pantry and community kitchen, RCS volunteers offer oral health education and supplies as part of the SMILES Oral Health Program.
SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)
On Tuesdays, neighbors visiting the RCS food pantry and community kitchen can meet with an RCS volunteer for assistance with a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly Food Stamps) application. Following completion of an online SNAP application at RCS, applicants will be contacted by the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) for a follow up interview and next steps to receiving SNAP benefits.
