AN EVENING OF FOOD AND FELLOWSHIP TUESDAY NIGHTS

RSchoVol

Our Tuesday Night of food and fellowship is at the heart of all programs at Ravenswood Community Services. At this weekly gathering we eat, laugh, and dream about the future.

Volunteer opportunities for Tuesday Nights are quite numerous. Here is what volunteers do on Tuesday evenings.

4:00 – The evening’s cooking team arrives to begin food preparation.

5:00 – Downstairs in the Food Pantry, volunteers arrive to do several things. Items for grocery bags are pulled and lined up, made ready to be packed into bags to be taken away.  Milk and bread is transported upstairs to the distribution area.  Upstairs, place settings are arranged at every seat.  Coffee is brewed and cold beverage stations are set up.  The sign-in table is prepared.

5:30 – The Front Door opens. In the Food Pantry, volunteers continue to prepare grocery bags.  Boxes are flattened and packaged for recycling as food distribution continues.  Upstairs, neighbors sign in.  At the Front Door, volunteers welcome neighbors and distribute kitchen and no-kitchen bags.  Milk and juice is distributed.  In the Dining Hall, neighbors begin to gather for dinner.  Volunteers sit at tables to talk with neighbors and to insure that coffee and beverage stations are stocked with drinks.

6:30 – Dinner is served.  Volunteers are needed downstairs to carry the hot meal upstairs and serve our neighbors.  Our dinner is served family style.

7:00 – Clean up begins.  As serving dishes are cleared out, volunteers are needed to carry dirty dishes to the Community Kitchen area to be washed.  At the Front Door, volunteers continue to hand neighbors grocery bags as they finish dinner and prepare to go home.  In the Dining Hall, volunteers clear tables, stack chairs, sterilize the dinner tables, clean the space and vacuum.  In the Community Kitchen, numerous volunteers are needed to wash dishes and clean the kitchen.  In the Food Pantry, boxes are prepared for recycling and the space is cleaned for the following week.

7:30 – Doors are closed.  Clean up is completed in all areas.
