At 5:30, every Tuesday evening, as many as 185 neighbors gather in All Saints' parish hall to talk and visit as they wait to be served a freshly prepared hot meal. Each week, an average of 30 volunteers bag well over two thousand pounds of food that are distributed to the 300 or more individuals who walk through our doors. Our wonderful corps of volunteers includes All Saints' parishioners, neighbors and community members who want to reach out and be connected to the neighborhood in which they live, and city groups including a delightful group from Misericordia and Brownie Troops.
We strive for nutritional balance, and for the past two years, have included a quart of milk in each bag. We also assemble bags of already prepared foods for those who are homeless or live in rooms without kitchen facilities.
The Food Pantry and Community Kitchen has brought together people from all sides of the economic divide in our changing neighborhood. Through our common goals, our individual gifts, and a shared vision for the future of our neighborhood and the wider community, Ravenswood Community Services has established itself as a force for growth and change.
