RCS's 3rd Annual Celebration of Art

a thank you

ArtWalkRavenswood is a tour of arts and industry in the Ravenswood corridor. The walk encompasses more than 50 venues and features hundreds of working, professional and emerging artists. The 2008 Tour of Arts & Industry was held on October 4th and 5th, 2008.

Ravenswood Community Service's Community Kitchen and Food Pantry was transformed into gallery space. We were extremely excited to host a stop on the year's walk.

Many people came together to make this event an incredible success.

Thanks to our curators - Annette Kavanaugh and Diane Kavanaugh-Black.

Thank you to all of the artists who donated their beautiful work and time to make our event an incredible success: Rafala Green, Annette Kavanaugh, Julie Sevig, Charlie Simokaitis, Anna Stanley, "Kitty" Conde and the young people of Ravenswood School.

Catherine "Kitty" Conde and her students at Ravenswood School created the “Empty Bowls” exhibition which premiered during this year’s ArtWalkRavenswood.  This powerful display of empty bowls made visible the many invisible hungry people that live in Uptown and Ravenswood.  The young people at Ravenswood School prepared for this exhibition by studying hunger in our neighborhood, the United States, and around the world.  Additionally, they volunteered at Ravenswood Community Services’ Food Pantry and Community Kitchen to discover that all of us have it within our means to feed the hungry. Photographer Charile Simokaitis document the creation of the exhibit. “Empty Bowls” was generously underwritten by Polk Bros Foundation.

Thanks to all who led workshops: Rafala Green, Anna Stanley, Annette Kavanaugh, Julie Sevig, A.J. Buckingham and Gina Shropshire.

Thanks to Anneliese Gallagher who built us "The Great Wall of RCS!" Our art was beautifully displayed in the center of our parish hall - a gathering space on All Saints' Chicago's church campus where we feed over 300 people every Tuesday Night.

Thanks to Erin Marshall, Charlie Simokaitis and Kevin Goodman who put the wall together and to the same crew plus Andrew Black who helped us take it down.

Thanks to our wonderful volunteers who helped us make the event an incredible success: Beth Lee, Ed Bird, Juleigh Ruby, Brad Ruby, Kate Ruby, Thomas Ruby, Hilary Waldron, Mark Ortlieb, and Andy Simmons.

And thanks to Wendy Vasquez who began her first week at RCS hitting the ground running.
